Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs)
Grades for Summer 2021 have been based on a holistic, objective judgement of the evidence of the students’ performance on the subject content they have been taught. Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs) were determined by teachers through a rigorous process of assessment, moderation and quality assurance.
The grades and assessment evidence have also been subjected to a quality assurance process by the examination boards.
Appeals Process
Any student, including a Private Candidate, may submit a request for a centre review based on the Joint Council for Qualifications’ (JCQ) criteria for appeals on the grounds that the centre has:
Stage 1: Centre Review
-
made an administrative error in relation to the result e.g. transcribing a result incorrectly or
-
made a procedural error e.g. the Centre Policy, approved by the exam board, hasn’t been followed.
Students who want to request a Stage 1: Centre Review must complete the online Stage 1 Appeal form
This form must be emailed to: exams@ecclesbourne.derbyshire.sch.uk
Stage 2: Appeal to Awarding Organisation
Any student, including a Private Candidate, who considers that there has been a procedural error, an administrative error or that their grade reflects an unreasonable exercise of academic judgement (either because of the way that the grade has been determined and/or the selection of the evidence), may submit a request for an awarding organisation appeal after they have received the outcome of their centre review and after the publication of results.
The teacher’s exercise of judgement will not be considered unreasonable simply because an alternative exercise of judgement would have resulted in a more or less favourable result for the individual student. The teacher’s judgement will be considered unreasonable only if it is such that no teacher acting reasonably could have reached the same judgement.
Students who want to request a Stage 2: Appeal to Awarding Organisation must complete the online Stage 2 Appeal form
This form must be emailed to: exams@ecclesbourne.derbyshire.sch.uk
Possible Outcomes of an Appeal
After a Stage 1 or Stage 2 Appeal a student’s grade may be lowered, stay the same or go up. In launching an appeal, a student will sign a declaration to confirm that they understand and accept the possible grade changes that may result from the appeal. Once a finding has been made the student cannot withdraw the request for a centre review or appeal. If the grade has been lowered they will not be able to revert back to the original grade that they received on results day.
