Applications for Year 7 Admission

The process for transfer from primary to secondary school begins in the September that a child starts Year 6.

Secondary Transfer letters and leaflets are sent to parents from the Local Authority via the child’s current school giving advice on the application process.

The Governing Body of The Ecclesbourne School is the admission authority and the Local Authority co ordinates all admissions on behalf of the Governing Body. You can access the Local Authority Application Form via the link below.

If you are applying for a school place and you live outside Derbyshire (e.g. Derby City), then you will need to apply via your own local authority (e.g. Derby City Council) who will then liaise with Derbyshire County Council.

The closing date for applications is 31 October. The Local Authority will notify parents of the place allocated to their child at the beginning of March the following year.

In-Year Applications

You may want to apply for your child to change schools other than when they are due to start secondary education. This could be because of a change of address or other personal reasons. You can do this at any time of year.

Parents should contact the Local Authority (Derbyshire County Council) to make an In Year application. Details in how to do this can be found via the link below.

The Local Authority will contact us to ascertain if a place is available. If a place is not available in the relevant year group a refusal will be returned to them. Parents will then be given the right of appeal. Appeals Guidance Notes and Appeal Form can be downloaded via the link below.

You are most welcome to attend one of our Open Evenings which are held in May each year, the dates of which can be found in the Latest News section nearer to the time.
