Work Experience

Work experience is an excellent opportunity for students to experience the world of work and develop an increased self-understanding, maturity, independence and self-confidence as an individual. All students in Year 10 and Year 12 will undertake a period of work experience in the summer term, which will hopefully increase motivation to continue study and have a better understanding of how the school curriculum can help prepare young people for work.

Year 10 dates: Monday 1st – Friday 5th July 2024
Year 12 dates: Monday 22nd – Friday 26th April 2024

We have also been promoting virtual work experience opportunities and events from various providers at some prestigious companies and organisations to help students engage with the world of work, in a way they can use these experiences to their advantage for CVs and personal statements and in interviews.

Our key providers are Springpod and Speakers for Schools, please see web links below for more information.

What the employers say:

"Adam has really got stuck into the areas of work we set for him. He was a real asset."

"Eve has been a pleasure to have with us, we wish her every success in her future career."

"Had a fantastic week with Will, we couldn’t have asked anymore from him."

"A team player, good listener and excellent with staff and patients alike."

Work experience is a hugely valuable experience, not merely the week of placement but the preparation – through researching placements, writing letters and verbally confirming the placement. Work Experience lessons will look at issues such as health and safety, conduct in the work place and the importance of developing transferrable skills. Throughout the process students complete a Work Experience Journal. A follow up activity takes place for Year 10 in school where students reflect on their working week and skills gained.
