Course Overview

This is a vocational course in ICT. This means that you will apply your ICT knowledge to a range of real world scenarios. The aims of the syllabus are to provide you with a foundation which will equip you for a range of careers in our rapidly changing world.

Across the two years, you will study four units: information technology systems, creating systems to manage information, using social media in business and data modeling. Throughout the course, you will develop a range of ICT skills and will become more competent in databases, spreadsheets and social media. All of these skills will be applied to real world projects with a business context.

Where can ICT take me?

A BTEC National in ICT will help you to go on higher level qualifications such as an Honours Degree, or alternatively, can take you straight into work or into an apprenticeship. This BTEC National can prepare you for a range of jobs in the public, private and voluntary sectors, such as web designing, admin jobs, maintenance technicians and many more.

Unit 2: Creating Systems to manage information Supervised task to design, create, test and evaluate a relational database 25%
Unit 3: Using social media in business Explore, develop and implement a plan 25%
Year 13: Extended Certificate % of course
Unit 5: Data Modeling Research, use case studies, carry out a web design project to demonstrate practical & technical skills 17%
