Careers & Guidance

Our well established careers programme leaves nothing to chance. Careers and university preparation will form a central thread throughout your sixth form experience.

Our UCAS process is delivered by vastly experienced tutors. We have a track record of successfully supporting students with their applications to competitive courses at top universities. In order to help students choose the right university, we offer students the opportunity to visit Open Days in school time, invite universities into school and offer students a huge amount of resources to research and consider their options.

We believe that there is no limit to what you can achieve, our highest achievers are encouraged to apply to Oxford and Cambridge. Our extensive Oxbridge applicants support programme begins in Year 12 and includes: visits from Ecclesbourne Oxbridge Alumni, visits to Oxbridge, specialist support from Oxbridge graduates on personal statements and interviews and established links with individual Oxford and Cambridge colleges. In the last 2 years, we are delighted that nine students have progressed to study at Oxford or Cambridge.

Students interested in apprenticeships can expect to receive: specialist guidance on advanced and degree level apprenticeship applications, presentations from Ecclesbourne Alumni that have gone onto apprenticeships, visits from local employers, visits to employers and careers fairs and interview experience delivered by our local ‘Rotary Club’.

In order to bridge the gap between employment and education, every Year 12 student is expected to undertake a work experience placement. The student should aim to secure a work experience placement which relates to their ideal career path or academic strengths or interests. Each student is eligible for support from The Careers Department, however, there is greater onus on the student to find their own placement.

All students have access to our careers library in F9 which includes resources to support students with their next steps applications. Initially their tutor will provide advice and signposting, with regards to careers, and all students have the opportunity to have an individual careers appointment with our independent careers advisor. Students can request these appointments by seeing Mrs Farina/Mrs Parker in the Careers Office, or may be referred to have one by their tutor.

The School's Careers page contains lots of information and advice with links to employers and apprenticeship providers, etc.
