Learning Together For The Future

If on the National Offer Date for Secondary Schools (Monday 1st March 2021) you find that the Local Authority has not offered your child a place at The Ecclesbourne School you are entitled to appeal this decision.

Appeals should be made in writing and submitted to the school for the attention of the Clerk to Governors. Your appeal will then be heard by an independent panel.

However, due to the outbreak of Coronavirus and to adhere to social distancing measures, the Government introduced new temporary legislation for Admission Appeal hearings, on 24 April 2020. These temporary regulations have now been extended until 30 September 2022. You can read the revised legislation here.

Therefore it is highly likely that the appeals will not be heard in person this year but the Independent Clerk will be in contact with you once a date and format for the appeal hearings has been agreed.

Applications for Year 7 Admission

The process for transfer from primary to secondary school begins in the September that a child starts Year 6.

Secondary Transfer letters and leaflets are sent to parents from the Local Authority via the child’s current school giving advice on the application process.

The Governing Body of The Ecclesbourne School is the admission authority and the Local Authority co ordinates all admissions on behalf of the Governing Body. You can access the Local Authority Application Form via the link below.

The closing date for applications is 31 October. The Local Authority will notify parents of the place allocated to their child at the beginning of March the following year.

In-Year Applications

Derbyshire parents should contact the Local Authority to make an application. Those applying from out of County should make their application to their home Authority which is sent on to Derbyshire.

The Local Authority will contact us to ascertain if a place is available. If a place is not available in the relevant year group a refusal will be returned to them. Parents will then be given the right of appeal. Appeals Guidance Notes and Appeal Form can be downloaded via the link below.
