  • Year 7 Christmas Book Gift

    Our Year 7 students received a book gift to support and celebrate reading for pleasure. The books were chosen from the BookTrust Bookbuzz 2021 reading programme. The books are selected by a panel of experts to inspire a love of reading in 11 to 13 year old students.

     

     

  • National Reading Champions Quiz 2021

    In May two enthusiastic teams from Ecclesbourne participated in the East Midlands heat of the NRCQ. The students selected to represent the school are avid readers with an encyclopaedic knowledge of books.

    The NRCQ, hosted by quizmaster Mr Dilly, provides a fantastic opportunity for students to enjoy an online quiz with their peers and compete with other schools in their region. The winning teams from 18 regions go forward to a star-studded, national final in June with one team being crowned National Reading Champions 2021.

     
  • YEAR 7 POETRY EVENT 2020

    The Kids’ Lit Quiz is an International competition run by Professor Wayne Mills, where schools get to compete in “The Sport of Reading”.

    In November Ecclesbourne attended the East Midlands heat with two teams. Our book group sessions before the quiz were spent furiously revising and testing our knowledge by doing mini quizzes in groups.

     
  • DUFFIELD PUBLIC LIBRARY VISIT 2020

    In the earliest stages of March all our Year 7 students visited Duffield Public Library. Librarian Carole-Ann Howard and Children’s Librarian for Derbyshire, Cathy Peterson gave a short presentation on the facilities and services available

     
     
  • Year 7 Poetry Event 2019

    In October our Year 7 students participated in a poetry workshop with poet John Dougherty to celebrate National Poetry Day.

    John started writing aged 18 as a way to express his thoughts and feelings. He writes both fiction and poetry for children and has had 33 books published. His themes include reality, fantasy, emotions and diversity.
