Learning Together For The Future

Textiles (AQA)

Key Stage 4

Course Overview

Design & Technology - Fashion & Textiles is a brand new course that has been updated to include 21st Century technologies. It has a 'core' which teaches you about 3D printing, laser cutting, new materials, a wide variety of traditional materials and manufacturing processes. In order to bring it right up to date, students will gain knowledge of other materials, such as wood, metal and plastics, as well as fabrics, so you will develop a sound all-round knowledge of materials, all of which are used in this subject.

It allows for an 'in-depth' specialism in Fashion & Textiles for 50% of the course. The Non Exam Assessment (NEA) is a very creative part of the course. Students are given a choice of situations to design and make for.

This course is for anyone who is looking for a robust academic qualification as well as a truly creative, enjoyable subject.

Assessment Criteria

50% of the course is a Written Assessment - 2 hour paper.

50% of the course is a Non Exam Assessment (coursework), typically 30-40 hours work. It is an e-portfolio and also includes a product you have designed and made.
