Alex McDermott (Year 10) today addressed the UK Youth Parliament from the front bench of the House of Commons and brought the house to its feet with a speech of prodigious force, humour and conviction.
Alex proposed the motion in favour of the lowering of the voting age to 16.
Speaker John Bercow said "Alex, what we’ve just heard from you – in terms of speech-making and self-assurance and logical thread and formidable delivery was quite simply a brilliant speech."
Alex has honed his oratory in the Student Council, the regional Youth Parliament, our mock trial competition and regular appearances in House Plays.
He spoke today with passion matched to real composure.
Well done Alex – we are proud of you.
