In October our Year 7 students participated in poetry workshops to celebrate National Poetry Day on the theme of Vision. This annual event inspires conversations and encourages a love of language. The students watched Karl Nova, performance poet and hip hop artist, read his poem See Through My Eyes, and completed a challenge to write a 5 line poem in 5 minutes with poet Simon Mole.

The students embraced the opportunity to write their own poems describing what Vision means to them personally. We hope you enjoy this selection of fabulous poems.
Vision by Freya Barraclough 7B
Vision is strange
Vision is a light switch
When touched by a finger
A beam of light descends from above
And there standing, awaiting your eyes to lay upon it is…
A lamp
Yet when all lights turn off
There standing, waiting…
A monster
Yet you cannot turn on the lights
As the moon is still watching
There you are stuck with this monster
Awaiting the suns arrival.
Vision by McKinley Cotton 7R
Can you see through my eyes?
Days pass by
There’s always something changing
We are all ageing
2019 becomes 2020
A blink of an eye passes by
A new pandemic happening
2020, where everyone’s vision of earth changes

What do I see when I step outside?
The big tall city
Flashing lights
What do I see when I step outside?
The green grassy countryside
What a delight
What do I see when I step outside?
The deep dark forest
Wolves at night
What do I see when I step outside?
Darkness, nothing
I hear with my eyes.
My eyes tell me joy, happiness and wonder
My eyes tell me sadness, depression and madness
My eyes tell me, absolutely everything.

Each pair of eyes is different
No view is the same
Our goals, our ambitions, our visions
Are what make us the same
No matter how you see the world
You’ll never be alone
Because I have a vision
A beautiful vision of a united world

Inside your microscopic pupil
Deep inside your eyes
Are tiny little wires
That can sometimes tell you lies
Vision from the future
Vision from the past
Not always seeing the picture
Needing to be fast
So keep hold of your lenses
And hold them nice and tight
For some cannot afford
To provide the gift of sight
Be grateful for your vision
I give you all my best
Recycle and donate lenses
And you will be the best
Charlotte Craner 7N
Vision is how we see the world
It’s how we look at the sky
And imagine the journey the clouds take
It’s how we imagine our future
Or dream of a different world
It’s how we see ourselves
And wonder how we will look in years to come
Our visions are different
But we are all the same. Equal.
Samuel Shao 7U
There are many things that I can see
A running river
A buzzing bee
Glowing stars
In the sky
Or people watching
As the sun goes by.
You might be having a little look
Or viewing the words
Inside a book
And then you slowly go to bed
And go to rest your sleepy head

Very colourful
In my vision I am
Smiling into my future
I am an artist and a dreamer
Observing the world
No one can see what I see
