The Kids’ Lit Quiz is an International competition run by Professor Wayne Mills, where schools get to compete in “The Sport of Reading”.
In November Ecclesbourne attended the East Midlands heat with two teams and were cheered on by an enthusiastic group of supporters. Our book group sessions before the quiz were spent furiously revising and testing our knowledge by doing mini quizzes in groups.
There were 10 rounds, each with 10 questions; along with audience questions between the rounds. The questions varied from “name the mythological creature” to “finish this author’s name” and ranged in difficulty. We also had the opportunity to score double points on a nominated joker round. Our teams chose mythological creatures and books into movies.
Victory came home with us to Ecclesbourne with our teams placed 2nd and 3rd, narrowly missing the top spot by just half a mark! Congratulations to the winners Highfields School Matlock. Our efforts were rewarded with book prizes, certificates and National Book Tokens presented by award winning author Berlie Doherty.
