Derbyshire Police and County Council have alerted all local schools to the existence of an indecent video, involving two minors, being shared amongst school pupils across the country. We understand that the incident has been investigated by other police forces; there has been an arrest in connection with the video and that it does not involve children from Derbyshire.
Police have asked schools to alert parents and carers to the existence of this sort of material and to issue a reminder that anyone sharing it is committing a criminal offence.
The Child Exploitation and Online Protection service (CEOP) have issued the following advice, which it would be helpful to share with your child:
- Please never share a video or image depicting any kind of abuse involving children.
- Each time a video or image of abuse is shared it re-victimises the child and increases the likelihood of blackmail, feelings of self-blame and powerlessness.
- Report it to the platform it has been shared on, e.g., YouTube, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, etc.
- Report it to CEOP stating which platform it was found on.
- If the material is not on a public platform and only exists on a local device, e.g., a phone or tablet then report it to CEOP or the police who will advise you how to proceed.
