Course Overview

A-level Spanish helps you develop comprehension of the written and spoken word in Spanish, as well as developing your spoken and written skills in the language. You will also develop a real appreciation of Hispanic culture and literature. If you have enjoyed your Spanish studies and want to take your language skills further, then this course is definitely for you!

The units at AS will build on familiar topics from GCSE.

In Year 1, the main topics covered are Modern and traditional aspects of Hispanic society and Artistic culture in the Spanish speaking world. The first year also includes the study of a film.

In Year 2, you will develop the topics studied in Year 1 but also study topics including Social issues and trends, Multiculturalism and Political life. The first year also includes the study of a book.

Entry Requirements:

5 GCSES 4-9 or A*-C to include Maths and English Lang or Lit Grade 5 + GCSE Spanish Grade 5 (Grade 6 desirable)

Where can Spanish take me?

You may like to go on to a degree in Spanish, or to one of the many courses which combine languages with another subject. A language is a transferable skill. Apart from the obvious choices such as Translation or Teaching, Spanish is a valuable asset in countless careers including Science, Banking, Engineering, Business, Law and Politics
