Course Overview

A-level French builds on the skills acquired at GCSE, promoting the use of the language through the study of French culture and society. The study of a film and literary text will be part of the AQA course at Ecclesbourne. The skills taught will include translation to and from French and the writing of critical essays on the prescribed literary text or film. With A Level French you will never be short of intellectual challenge and stimulation. If you enjoyed GCSE French and want to improve your fluency in the language through the study of French society and culture, then this is for you!

The AS course covers the topics of Stereotypes and Equality, Modern Health Issues and Aspects of TV, Film and Music.

Units at A Level are intended to reflect your greater maturity and developing proficiency in French. You will focus on Law and Order, Politics and issues relating to social exclusion and immigration.

Entry Requirements:

5 GCSES 4-9 or A*-C to include Maths and English Lang or Lit Grade 5 + GCSE French 5 (Grade 6 desirable)

Where can French take me?

You might continue on to a degree in French, or to one of the many courses that combine languages with another subject. A language is a transferable skill. Apart from obvious choices such as Translation or Teaching, French is a valuable asset in countless careers, including Science, Banking, Engineering, Business, Politics, Law and Journalism.
